Leading Service Provider for the automotive industry builds competitive advantage in B2B operations with Sterling Commerce B2B Outsourcing
London – 7th January, 2010 – Sterling Commerce, an AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) company, today announced that Valmet Automotive, a leading provider of automotive engineering and manufacturing services of premium cars, has signed an agreement with Sterling Commerce to automate and streamline the data communication of its inbound logistics processes across the supply chain.
Valmet Automotive operates in a market where speed, cost-efficiency and agility are key requirements for maintaining a competitive advantage. The company sought to quickly and cost-effectively expand its electronic data interchange (EDI)-based, B2B e-commerce operations to help them scale their operations whilst limiting the effect on production and supply chain operations. Cooperation with Sterling Commerce gives Valmet Automotive the ability to build up EDI-based data networks for car production projects more quickly, without the impact on capital expenditure.
“As a service provider for the automotive industry, we strive for the highest levels of agility and customer service,” said Arto Hakamaki, Vice President ICT Valmet Automotive. “We chose Sterling Commerce because the company stood out as a solution provider that understood the intricacies of our industry and our go-to-market requirements. With a presence across the global markets in which we operate, as well as a demonstrated commitment to our customer satisfaction and success, Sterling Commerce fully met our requirements.”
Sterling Commerce Managed Services will streamline Valmet Automotive’s EDI-communication processes and services for supply chain by ensuring secure and flexible community integration, business process automation and visibility into actionable information across the company’s vast and diverse partners. It will allow Valmet Automotive to send and receive documents to and from the Sterling Commerce on-demand integration platform. As part of this process, the Sterling Commerce Community Development team will on-board the company’s current and future trading partners to the global B2B Network using any protocol, format or channel, including EDI, Fax and Web, independently of where they are located. Additionally, the data tracking tool included with the service will provide Valmet Automotive visibility into real-time and historical B2B transaction data, allowing them to react more quickly and preempt possible resourcing issues.
Dave Carmichael, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sterling Commerce said: “Sterling Commerce enables companies like Valmet Automotive to accelerate business collaboration with customers and partners and enable them to tap into market opportunities more quickly. With Sterling Commerce Managed Services, Valmet Automotive will be able to reduce the total cost of ownership of its B2B operations and free up staff to focus on core competences, and ultimately generating further revenues.”
Sterling Commerce Managed Services takes responsibility for part or all of a company’s global B2B integration infrastructure and processes, enabling organisations to outsource the electronic exchange of business documents with their trading partners, as well as the on boarding and ongoing support of those partners. Sterling Commerce provides connectivity to eight of the world’s largest Automotive OEM manufacturing hubs, with interconnects to over 45 of the world’s largest automotive suppliers across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, and China.
